About Puro
More than two centuries ago, Leo Michielsen opened a grocery store in Breda, where he sold spices, tea, pepper, etc., but even then, coffee.
100 years later, the grocery store no longer existed. But no worries, the Michielsen family's interest in coffee had led to the establishment of the Miko coffee roasting company. The family was busy purchasing, blending, and selling carefully roasted Miko coffee from all over the world. With the proximity of the port of Antwerp, a global supply was possible.
We fast forward another 100 years: in 2005, the family felt it was time for a change. They were concerned, not about the business that their children and grandchildren would inherit, but about the world they would inherit. Puro was born, and with it, the commitment to stop the exploitation of our earth and the third world by giving fair prices to coffee farmers, and protecting the rainforest and the fauna & flora in coffee-producing countries.
And since a better world starts with oneself: solar panels are installed on the roof of our roasting facility to generate green energy. Additionally, the heat released during coffee roasting is used to warm the offices.
